Music

Aims
To foster an appreciation and enjoyment of music through performing, composing and listening skills. The curriculum's emphasis encourages the integration of music technology and develops knowledge of recording skills using a variety of techniques. Students also have the opportunity to take music technology as a qualification. As part of this, students will learn how to produce and up load podcasts as well as to explore new technological developments in this field. Students will develop an understanding of different cultures and make a critical response to music of different styles and periods. Students are encouraged to work independently and are given opportunities to take part in extra curricula activities in order to further their learning experiences.

Facilities
The main room is equipped with 9 Macs all of which have midi keyboards and feature the latest software. We have a keyboard lab which has 30 work stations enables all students to practice their keyboard skills at their own pace. Music also has a recording studio, which runs a G5 Mac with the latest software programs, midi keyboard and mixing facilities. There are 3 live rooms which also host 2 drum kits and a variety of guitars. We also have a Mac room which enables all key stage 4 and 5 students to have individual work stations as well as to use the latest software programs. Finally we have a DJ room which has an up to date Technics deck and mixing facilities.
